Bob,
My ISP was knocked out temporarily. I'm about 2 miles from ground zero.
I didn't hear it. I didn't have my radio on, I hadn't connected to the
Internet, etc. I didn't know what had happened. I went down to the
street about noon. All the shops were closed. There was no traffic.
People were streaming up the avenues on foot. I couldn't figure out what was going
on. Finally I ran into someone I knew. "The World Trade Towers. . . are
gone," she explained.
Of course I didn't believe it, until I looked down Fifth
Avenue toward the tip of Manhattan where the towers stood, and all I saw
was a huge #0000ff cloud, and I knew with certainty something terrible had
happened. It was like a scene from a SciFi horror film, except no one
was
running, no one was screaming. They were just walking away from an
immense
tragedy on a beautiful, clear late summer day.
Peace,
Flash
