1969: colored lights, posterboard, wood, electronics, rear projection screen
By shining light through patterns cut into posterbvoard it's possible to project
simple images on a rear projection screen. By turning those lights on and off rhythmically,
it's possible to animate the images. Once I saw the expression possible with such simple
projection technology, I determined to acquire slide projectors to experiment with, and I
searched for them at thrift shops and auctions.
Much of the animation I did in the 1980's, beginning with
Blue Rubato, used slide
projectors controlled by a computer program I wrote. By the 21st century, I would be
generating such images digitally.
