Hi Flash:

As usual, I'll be responding to your letter for weeks.

Here's one snippet: "Where did you get the idea that a life of faith was supposed to be easy and comfortable? This is one example of why I suggest spouses live separately, only coming together when they both want to."

I do not have that idea at all. The passage that I refer to is the admonition not to be "unequally yoked". in other words, if you are not married yet, then seek only a spouse who also loves Jesus and has accepted Jesus as his/her Lord and savior. Don't marry an unbeliever. If you are already married to an unbeliever, then don't get a divorce, but pray and live peaceably with that person--and--as you pointed out--perhaps you will be instrumental in his/her becoming born again.

Why would Paul state emphatically that leaders of the congregation be married to one wife unless that is the ideal?

Cheers,

Dr. Sophronia
