Although I was born in Chicago, we spent summers in Michigan
where there were clay deposits after the rain, and I began
making sculptures from this clay as a child. Around the age of 7
or 8, I was exposed to Art when we visited the Art Institute of
Chicago and I saw El Greco's Assumption of the Virgin at the end
of a huge marble staircase. I was tremendously moved and said, "I
want to do that when I grow up" not unlike any other child
exposed to a miracle of human achievement who is too naive to
understand the monumentality of the task.
After graduating from the Art Institute of Chicago, I
received my Master's degree At the California College of Arts and .
Crafts where I had been awarded a teaching fellowship. After
returning To Chicago, and working as a docent at the Art
Institute of Chicago I studied German Expressionism in Europe and
moved to New York. I first began exhibiting my work in the late
1970's. My work has evolved from the grid paintings I exhibited
in the 70's to the present day landscapes, which include three-
dimensional elements. My work is in private and public
collections, including The Chase Manhattan Bank, and Station
WLIW.
